You're dead right about computers though - if we had them back then we would have all been indoors, wouldn't we!Steve Galehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09459545933323958452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8802206289996500659.post-76582676272551578782015-07-03T10:15:25.691+01:002015-07-03T10:15:25.691+01:00Good to hear mention of Tring, Steve. Your post resonates rather with my current read “The Moth Snowstorm: Nature and Joy”. There are losses all round, it seems, and I guess we’ll never know whether the loss of nature’s abundance is a factor in the loss of childhoods spent outdoors.
P.S. Beautifully written post.Lucy @ A Natural Interludehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10239907920826512177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8802206289996500659.post-47904021297772427862015-07-03T08:51:10.051+01:002015-07-03T08:51:10.051+01:00An exact and brilliant description of the childhoo...An exact and brilliant description of the childhood of most of us from those days Steve, although mine was getting on for 10 years before you. So many simple memories that you stir from the depths of my mind, but I suppose that you have to ask the question, if we had what is available to children today for entertainment, i.e. PC's, etc. would we have been out doing all those things.
Sadly, we were the last generation to experience simple, self created past-times such as you have described and it'll never return again. Children are rarely seen on nature reserves these days either, seems to be mainly us older folk who still wish to commune with nature and continue our education in such things. But then I swapped some comments about that fact with another regular blogger recently, who told me that as far as he was concerned children shouldn't be let near any nature reserves!
