The 2016 ND&B collection

I've been fiddling around with the blog header recently, and have settled on replacing them each month. So far has seen Goldfinch (January) and Kingfisher (February), but I thought that you might like to see what is coming up, in monthly order. The subjects are chosen to reflect the time of year.

Can anyone out there identify the species depicted in all twelve headers? First prize is the admiration of all the cyber wildlife community...

A nice idea Steve with a few nice shots to look forward to as the months pass.

Alas, Marc, not up to the photographic standards of your good self... (and also no odonata in sight!)
Forget what they all are, the key question is why are there no Wheatears?????

Because, Jono, all my images of Whitearses are pants... and nowhere as good as yours. Not even nearly.

OK, so I'm lunge in without the aid of fieldguides or wisdom and say Goldfinch, Kingfisher, Black-necked Grebe (please don't be a Slav...), Whinchat, Adonis Blue, Bee Orchid, Coreus marginatus, some weird blue thing - Cornflower?, Long-tailed Blue, Stonechat, Fieldfare and Pedunculate Oak. With a smudge on it hahaha!

Seth, identify the smudge in header 12 and you've got a full house!

IT'S JUST NOT POSSIBLE!!!!! But...I think it's an owl. So, that far away from a hole/the trunk in broad daylight would be very unusual for a Tawny. Wrong everything for a LEO. I doubt a SEO would be up like that either. Definitely not a Barn Owl either. So I'm gonna say Little Owl, but more through a process of elimination than what I can actually see. Either that or it's a bloody squirrel....

Seth, you're powers of owl deduction are up there with the best. Correct!
