The best laid plans

I get all wound up and excited about the 2015 local patch challenge, put in three hefty shifts... and then get hit with the double whammy of Shingles and a secondary infection - down the entire length of my right leg no less. I won't be turning out for the mighty Spurs this weekend, let alone birding. That's me out of action for a while, but I feel so shite that a male Siberian Thrush at Canons Farm couldn't entice me out... but then again...

That's very kind of you Craggy. I'm OK for transport and will hopefully be up and about again within a couple of weeks. All the very best to you, Steve.

Not a good start to the year for you mate ! get better rapidly, there's birds to be found out there.

A better day today Dean. Here's hoping the worst is over.

At least it's not migration time Warren. Sitting out a bit of mild, wet and windy January is no hardship.

Stay cool Steve and get well. The weather is shite and forecast to stay so next week too, so just lie and watch films or read or summat until all is well. You will get your rewards I'm sure :)

[Right, time to put some leg work in.....]

Yeah, at least it isn't a particularly good time at the moment Stewart. Still, gives you a little push forward if you want

Hi, Steve, all of a sudden my lower back pain seems a touch trivial, and you`ve certainly stopped me moaning and feeling sorry for myself. You`d better shape up by March tho, otherwise who else is going to take the piss and award the gong for the first Wheatear pic of the spring! All the best from Dungeness birders.

Thanks Paul, hopefully it will be only a couple of weeks of inactivity. Get some warmth on that back of yours - shingle crunching cannot help!!

some good advice from the guys Steve take it real easy I had shingles in 2010 laid me low for weeks not one to be trifled with ,time to catch up on your bucket list for nature books, the uber patch can wait :-)

Thanks for the advice Geoff. It might just be that I've got away with a light dose, but that was (is) still unpleasant.

Been out this morning Steve, and added 4 sp, takes me just over the 50% mark....nothing now til next weekend. The Countryfile forecast says we could get a cold spell at the weekend. If thats right, it might add something interesting to the total.

And hopefully, by then, I might be out and about again. Game back on!

Hi Steve. Only just caught up with your blog after a few days with my attention elsewhere, hence tardy comment. I've heard that shingles can be pretty grim, so I hope you've only been clobbered by a relatively mild variety. Mind you, I can't help noting that there can't be a more appropriate malady for a Dungeaholic... :o)
Your blog remains a delightful balance of enthusiasm, appreciation and reflection. Keep at it matey.

Thanks Gav - the Dungeness/shingle(s) connection had already occurred to me. I asked for it, really. Hope all is well in South Devon.
